Equine Art
Materials
Graphite and Acrylic Paint on Paper
Date
2021
Location
Medellín, Colombia
This series can only be explained as an adaptation to my surroundings. During Covid lockdowns I was stuck in Rionegro, Colombia, and found myself going to see my cousins and uncle play polo - itching for excuses to be outside and in good company. Naturally, I began drawing the beautiful polo horses in situ and as a result, other polo-goers began giving me commissions to draw their horses.
Using graphite and accents of acrylic paint, I taught myself how to draw these horses as realistically as I could, and found the experience very rewarding given the amazing musculature of the horses and sentimental connections they had with their humans. Slow, observant and realistic drawing will always be a meditative practice for me.
